This island community is known as the cultural hub of Nunavut, and throughout the year, there are activities that showcase Nunavut's colourful culture. In Mid-January, the Return of the Sun Festival celebrates Inuit symbolism with traditional games, music, and costumes.

The Igloolik Residence Centre sponsors a unique oral history project aimed at documenting the elders' rich traditional knowledge. Local archeological sites can be visited snow-free from June - September. Wildlife is in abundance in Igloolik, as well as a plethora of flowering plants in the summer, when the temperatures rise and there is almost pure daylight.
